The last weekend of the October school holidays marked a significant milestone for the Birubi Point Surf Life Saving Club as we embarked on our inaugural youth camp in Sydney. This exciting adventure brought together 16 enthusiastic young members eager to learn, bond, and experience the essence of surf life saving.Nestled in the scenic surroundings of the Sydney Academy of Sport, our camp provided the perfect backdrop for a weekend filled with learning and camaraderie. On Saturday, we had the privilege of joining forces with the South Narrabeen Surf Life Saving Club for a patrol. This collaboration allowed our cadets not only to engage in vital patrol duties but also to complete their wet proficiencies, solidifying their skills in a real-world environment.Evenings were a highlight, with our young members enjoying time in the pool, honing their water safety skills, followed by the warmth of a bonfire where stories were shared and friendships deepened. The laughter and chatter around the fire created lasting memories that everyone will cherish.Sunday morning brought an enlightening visit to Surfcom, where our cadets gained invaluable insight into the critical role of the Surf Life Saving communication centre. Understanding the importance of clear and effective communication in ensuring beach safety was a pivotal part of their learning experience.The weekend wrapped up with a thrilling trip to Luna Park, where the youth let loose and enjoyed the rides, laughter, and the sheer joy of being together. It was a fantastic way to conclude an enriching weekend.A heartfelt thank you goes out to our cadets, whose enthusiasm and teamwork made this trip a resounding success. We also extend our gratitude to the amazing adult volunteers who dedicated their time and energy to accompany us, ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all.This inaugural camp not only reinforced our commitment to surf life saving but also strengthened the bonds within our club.
