Long time members recognised by South Tomaree Community Association

The South Tomaree Community Association is hosting its Spring into Summer event on Nov 9 at Robinson Reserve from 10am where 6 of our long term members will be recognised.

The South Tomaree Community Association is hosting its Spring into Summer event on Nov 9 at Robinson Reserve from 10am where 6 of our long term members (details below) will be recognised.

Birubi Point SLSC was formed as a group in 1992 by Peter and Shirley Broadfoot and other residents to protect beachgoers at  Birubi Point Beach. Initially operating out of a truck(the "Yellow Truck" was our first Clubhouse), it was endorsed as a club in 1998. The club has since grown thanks to volunteers and local businesses, playing a crucial role in saving lives, providing water safety for community events, and engaging the community through its Nipper program.

The following local members of Birubi Point SLSC have been involved with the surf club for over 25 years:

Susan Hume

Susan Hume is a key figure in patrol service and club operations and maintaining 100% attendance record over this time. She holds multiple surf lifesaving certifications, including a Bronze Medallion First aid and Advanced Resuscitation. She also has a Cert 4 in Training and Assessment and trains members in First Aid and ART.  She has served on the committee for over 20 years and is a life member of the club.

Dennis Hume

Dennis Hume has dedicated 25 years to patrolling, achieving 100% attendance. He holds certifications including Bronze Medallion, Advanced Resuscitation, First Aid, Patrol Captain, and IRB Driver. Dennis has been awarded the 25-year Patrol Service Award and the 15-year National Service Medal. He regularly participates in water safety for community events, raffles, and fundraising for Birubi Point SLSC.

Michael Denahy

Mick has dedicated over 25years to surf lifesaving maintain a perfect attendance record. He holds a bronze medallion first aid certificate patrol captains award.  He is also on the emergency call out team. Served as a director of lifesaving for hunter branch and served as a Duty Officer and FWC operator for over 15 years.  He has been awarded life membership at Hunter Branch and Birubi Point SLSC, the 25 year long service award and the 25 national patrol service award and the 15 year National Service Medal

Graeme Chamberlain

Graeme Chamberlain has dedicated over 20 years to patrolling and club operations. He holds certifications including Bronze Medallion, IRB Crew and Driver, and Patrol Captain. Over the years, Graeme has held various positions on the committee, including Club Captain and Treasurer. He is actively involved in the community, providing water safety for triathlons and other events. Graeme was awarded life membership for his service.

Don Shaw

Don Shaw, a founding member of the club, has been patrolling for over 30 years. He holds certifications including Bronze Medallion, Patrol Captain, First Aid, and ARTC. Don has served on the committee for many years and is dedicated to maintaining the club's equipment. He has been recognized with life membership and is well-known for mentoring the younger generation.
