Welcome to the OH&S section of our website. At Birubi Point SLSC we take the Health, Safety and Welfare of our members seriously.

Birubi Point OH&S Policy states:

Occupational Health and Safety Policy

The Committee of Birubi Point SLSC are committed to providing and maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for its volunteers, club members and anyone entering the premises in connection with Surf Lifesaving duties. As a club we comply with OH&S Federal and State laws, Hunter Branch, SLSNSW, SLSA and Port Stephens Council Health and Safety directives. In demonstrating the Committees' committment to our 'Duty of Care', we will make every reasonable effort to provide a safe volunteer work environment that minimises incidents of risk or personal injury, ill health or damage to property.

This includes:

  • Providing volunteers with appropriate training
  • Providing safe equipment and systems of work
  • Regular consultation on health and safety issues

    Signed

The President, Rob Duff and the OH&S Safety Officer, Paul Robinson

Our Club Safety Officer has been trained to oversee the OH&S issues associated with running a busy beach and clubhouse environment. Each season we begin by completing a safety audit and risk assessment on our club. As a result of such an audit, we identified a need for additional storage space for our rescue equipment and subsequently extended our original premises to comply with the findings of that audit.

All new and existing members will undergo a short OH&S induction and every member is encouraged to report hazards and safety issues as they arise. Safety issues and concerns are discussed at every monthly Committee meeting or as required. Please help keep your club a safe and happy place to be.

Hazard reporting forms can be found in the grey OH&S folder which is located above the patrol table in the main clubhouse. Completed forms are checked regularly and feedback given to those reporting a safety issue.
